Thanks to all of those renovation and DIY shows on TV, more people than ever are purchasing “fixer upper” homes and renovating them. Sometimes, they buy these houses to fully customize them, while other people are going into the flipping business, investing in a run-down home and selling it for a profit.

While a fixer upper may need a lot of TLC in places, almost all of them need to be repainted. Picking the right color palette, though, isn’t always easy. Before you call in professional painters in Canton, GA, you have to have your color scheme set.

Here are a few of the most popular color palettes as inspired by HGTV’s show “Fixer Upper”, inspired by the beloved hosts, Chip and Joanna Gaines. You may find one that works perfectly for your home.

ALABASTER BY SHERWIN WILLIAMS

Alabaster (#7008) is a good color choice for those who are going to resell their fixer upper home because it’s very neutral. Anyone could come in and add their own colorful touches to a room painted in alabaster.

As the 2016 Color of the Year, it’s not quite white, but it’s not really a gray, either. While some may find it a boring color, it makes a perfect background if you plan on using bold colors in your furniture or décor because it won’t clash or pull attention.

REPOSE GRAY BY SHERWIN WILLIAMS

If you want a color that’s a little darker than Alabaster, Repose Gray (#7015) may be the right shade for you. This gray color has undertones of taupe, giving it a soft feeling that isn’t really warm or cool. Like Alabaster, it’s a nice neutral shade that blends into the background and lets your décor and accent colors really pop.

OYSTER BAY BY SHERWIN WILLIAMS

Going a bit darker, Oyster Bay (#6206) is an interesting mix of gray, blue, and green. It’s a bit more intense than Repose Gray, so it may not be the ideal wall color.

However, it can make built-ins, cabinets, and accent walls stand out without being too bold or attention-grabbing. It’s nice if you want a bit more contrast without going overboard. For example, painting the cabinets in the kitchen Oyster Bay and topping them with a white countertop would be a great combination.

URBANE BRONZE BY SHERWIN WILLIAMS

Another amazing Sherwin Williams color, Urbane Bronze (#7048) is a warm, dark brown that’s inviting and elegant. This is an amazing color for the front door, but it also works very nicely as an exterior accent color for the trim or your shutters.

Inside, it works well on built-ins and exposed beams. It has a richness to it that makes anything done in Urbane Bronze look grand, but it’s also a color that you don’t want to use sparingly.

SILVER STRAND BY SHERWIN WILLIAMS

Silver Strand (#7057) is a gray-green color that’s somewhat muted, making it a great wall color for rooms that are going to have bold colors in them. It looks nice when used with white trim, especially if the room has hardwood floors in it. It is a darker shade of gray, but it’s not so dark that it will make the room feel closed in or smaller.

MINDFUL GRAY BY SHERWIN WILLIAMS

Mindful Gray (#7016) is similar to Repose Gray, but it’s darker. It’s also lighter than Silver Strand and has more of a brown tone than green. Because of this, some people may find it a little more neutral than Silver Strand. It also pairs well with a basic white or with a shiplap accent wall.
