Drywall Repair

When it comes to painting your home, preparation is just as important as the paint. That’s one reason why J. Stevens Painting offers drywall repair services. The health of the drywall in your home can affect the quality of an interior painting project.

Drywall is made from gypsum or plaster and most walls are constructed with this material. It’s attached to the studs that are inside your walls, and this is the surface that we paint on.

Drywall is called by a number of names: Plasterboard, Wallboard and Gypsum Board. They are made with gypsum.

So is Sheetrock. When the process for increasing the strength of plaster was perfected, the first major product that turned one layer of plaster and paper into a board that could be bolted to a wall for a smooth interior finish was called Sheetrock. Sheetrock is a brand name that is now synonymous with drywall.

Sometimes people confuse stucco for drywall. However, while stucco is an exterior adhesive similar to plaster, it’s made from a different material that becomes quite hard.

If your drywall becomes damaged, you’ll need the expertise to repair it prior to painting. It needs to be bolted back with plaster washers, screws made for drywall and smeared with lime putty and fiberglass tape.

Whether you’re looking at a length of drywall, plaster or sheetrock, you’ve got to know what is going on at the surface level and beyond.

If there are holes, they must be properly patched and painted so it’s as if they were never there.

You also need to assess the level of damage those holes created to see if the drywall (or plaster) is still useable. Perhaps the drywall has water damage. When it’s crumbling or soft to the touch, we have to assess if the wall can be saved, or if another sheet needs to be installed.

That’s the kind of decision where you want a professional house painter who knows how to deal with the walls of your home on your team.
